1. Psychological Symptoms of BTK:
2. Dennis Rader suffered from antisocial personality disorder. A psychologist in Wichita, Tony Ruark, described Rader as a psychopath with severe anti-social personality disorder. Ruark states, "There are no indications of regret or guilt or negative feelings surrounding it at all. He can just do it in a very casual, relaxed cool kind of way, almost clinical. His analogy of it being a production is more of that disassociative kind of thing. ’I wanted to be the producer and director.’ That’s more of that control we see all through this man’s behavior."
Rader was able to live a normal life with a wife and two children and he was able to keep this huge secret of his away from his family and friends for over 30 years. When he gave his confession he showed no remorse and he enjoyed the attention that he was getting, and it also relates to narcissistic personality disorder.
Those who have this disorder show that they have poor verbal and grammar skills and that they either did not do good in school or even failed. Rader did not fail school, but he showed very bad grammar in his letters to the WPD and he went to at least three different colleges throughout his adult life.
3. To treat anti-social personality disorder, Dennis Rader would have to understand his condition and how it has already changed his life and so many others. He would need to learn how to control his anger and frustration and to not take it out on others. Rader would need to learn how to have empathy towards others and to show emotion when it is appropriate.
